Private 5G Networks

GreenlightPM acts as Virtugrp and Radtonics in Spain

What is a Private 5G Network?

Private 5G networks are autonomous, customized infrastructures deployed on-site, using components like public mobile networks but with complete control by the organization.

  • Developed by 3GPP, like traditional mobile networks.
  • They include base stations, SIMs or eSIMs, a core network, and local orchestration.
  • They can be built entirely on-site, without cloud components.
  • An alternative to carrier virtual networks, which depend on the operator's infrastructure and offer less control.
  • The local network allows for greater security, faster response times, and cost control.

Differences between Wi-Fi and Private 5G

Wi-Fi is widely compatible and cost-effective, ideal for traditional devices, while 5G focuses on environments requiring mobility, extensive coverage, security, and prioritization.

  • Wi-Fi supports legacy devices and has an established ecosystem.
  • 5G is better suited for mobile applications, outdoor environments, and IoT devices with high security and performance demands.
  • Outdoors, 4G/5G offers greater range and stability.
  • Comparisons show that 5G can offer higher speeds and less variability in response over longer distances.

Private 5G networks should offer

  • Similar functionalities to Wi-Fi, with local control, easy integration, and efficient management.
  • On-site installable components without cloud dependency.
  • Use of existing resources and minimal training.
  • Reuse of Cat cabling and PoE switches.
  • IP segmentation using VLANs or access lists, integrable with the LAN infrastructure.
  • The network should integrate with the IT network, enabling NAT and tunneling.
  • Easy APN/DNN configuration and VLAN mapping.
  • User-friendly, Wi-Fi-like management interface for configuration and monitoring.
  • Customizable events and alarms, with integration into existing systems.
  • Open APIs for integration with orchestration platforms.
  • No additional costs for connecting new devices.
  • Organization-controlled infrastructure, with the option to outsource specific functions.

About Our Partners

RADTONICS

Radtonics is a Swedish company founded in 2018 by a team of highly skilled and accomplished telecom and IT executives with extensive experience in the global information technology sector. Many of our employees have backgrounds in operational and leadership roles with operators, telecom equipment manufacturers, system integrators, IT providers, and software companies.

We have been involved in building some of the worlds’ most challenging mobile networks, and we have contributed to the development of next-generation mobile standards and core networks.

Radtonics provides secure and powerful private 5G networks designed to fit the needs of IT organizations in terms of functionality and cost.

Radtonics’ goal is to make private 5G networks as easy to build and manage as traditional Wi-Fi networks.

Our Products

ALTUS and ISOTOPE

For Industrial Sites

Where industrial production and operations are dependent on connectivity, ALTUS brings Core Redundancy and Enterprise IT Integration features to ensure a stable running environment.

Industrial Sites

Production and Construction sites that require a Network Cluster

Warehousing

Indoor storage and processing facilities

Remote Sites

For Mining and Agriculture sites that have limited infrastructure

Construction sites

A portable solution named ISOTOPE for EPCs to use on Construction sites

ISOTOPE can also be used for rapid 5G deployment and pilot installations in other environments for other use cases

OZONE

For Fixed Wireless Operators

Broadband Service providers favour Fixed Wireless for last-mile connectivity, OZONE brings a High Throughput Multi-Core and Centralised Network Management.

Housing Developments

New housing estates that require Broadband Internet Services

Stranded Fibre Rollout

Existing housing estates where Fibre rollout has become too costly to deploy

mmW Deployments

Operators making the most of available bandwidth in the mmW Spectrum

Examples of Successful Use Cases:

Garpenberg mine, Boliden, Sweden

The Challenge

Due to the remote location of the mines in the north of Sweden, there is very little access to mobile or fixed communications. The lack of reliable communications presents challenges in modernising mining processes, such as safety, compliance and self-driving vehicles. Boliden also wanted to explore Private 5G for strategic reasons.

The Solution

Radtonics has deployed an enterprise 5G network featuring high levels of redundancy in both capacity and coverage.

Fiskarheden Sawmill, Fiskarheden, Sweden

The Challenge

Fiskarheden was a manually operated sawmill in the north of Stockholm. The CIO at the sawmill, wanted increased autonomy and digitization of the processes and ways of working at the plant. After installing 48 WiFi routers to improve connectivity he realised it was not the way forward.

The Solution

With a 5G network, Fiskarheden took the next step in digitalization to achieve use cases not possible in the WiFi network. The 5G network provides a solution enabling Fiskarheden to be one of Europe’s top 5 most digitalized sawmills.

Residential Development
GemLife Resorts with Prospecta, Australia

The Challenge

GemLife is an over-50s lifestyle resort developer creating high-end residential estates along the East Coast of Australia. GemLife used a traditional connectivity solution deploying fibre to each resident within its estates. This practice puts limitations to their cost structure.

The Solution

Radtonics is to rollout an Enterprise Network to provide all residents with internet services. The network will be offered direct, but also wholesaled to ISPs, providing homeowners access to a broad range of competitive retail offerings.

Examples of Successful Use Cases:

Recommendations for evaluating whether a private 5G network is suitable:

  1. Analyze use cases, devices, and security requirements.
  2. Review whether the current Wi-Fi infrastructure can be upgraded or if 5G is required.
  3. Estimate the traffic and bandwidth required per application.
  4. Perform radio planning and define the IP plan.
  5. Request industrial spectrum in countries with this process, where you have control and ownership of the spectrum.
  6. Decide on delivery, installation, operation, and support.
  7. Consider redundancy, battery backup, and compatibility with existing devices.

We have extensive experience in helping customers with these questions throughout the entire process, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

With our Technology Consulting Services we help our customers understand how new and emerging technologies apply to their business, what benefits they bring and what their true costs are.
